Holmes Educational State Forest (ESF) is thrilled to announce the reopening of its forestry center, affectionately known as the “treehouse,” following extensive renovations. Located at 1299 Crab Creek Rd #8440, Hendersonville, NC 28739, near the trailhead of the Talking Tree Trail, this upgraded facility now offers a variety of new exhibits and an enhanced indoor space for educational programs. With its scenic setting and upgraded amenities, Holmes ESF is a perfect destination for a family outing or an educational excursion.
The recent renovations at Holmes ESF have transformed the forestry center into a state-of-the-art educational hub. With the generous support of the North Carolina Sustainable Forestry Initiative and the Henderson County Tourism Development Authority, the treehouse has undergone significant improvements.
Susan Fay, Supervisor of Holmes ESF, expressed gratitude for the funding provided by the supporting organizations. “Holmes Educational State Forest is incredibly grateful for the North Carolina Sustainable Forestry Initiative and the Henderson County Tourism Development Authority for providing funds to make this renovation possible,” she said. “Through their generous support, we will further our mission to teach visitors of all ages that the forest is a complex ecosystem that can be managed to enhance the quality of life for all.”
The treehouse now serves as a vital resource for ranger-led educational programs aimed at school groups, scouts, and other organizations. Visitors can learn about forestry tools, environmental topics, and the importance of sustainable forest management.
“We’re excited to have an enclosed space where we can work with groups,” says Fay. “The treehouse will also provide a space where visitors can learn about forestry tools, environmental topics and so much more. We’re looking forward to having visitors come out for a hike or picnic and hope that they’ll include the treehouse in their visit.”
Holmes ESF offers more than just the treehouse. The forest includes over five miles of pedestrian-only trails, making it a perfect destination for hiking and nature walks. Visitors can also take advantage of picnic tables and grills, as well as a covered picnic shelter that can be reserved for group events.
